Bootleg Rascal is a Yugambeh/Gold Coast-based duo comprised of Carlos Lara and Jimmy Young. Drawing inspiration from icons like Gorillaz, Kid Cudi, Sublime, and Massive Attack, the pair fuses hip-hop, reggae, indie rock, dub, and electronica into a unique, genre-bending sound.

Since forming in late 2012, Bootleg Rascal has released a string of singles, two EPs, and four albums, earning global acclaim from fans and critics alike. Their music has been championed by Spotify, Apple Music, MTV, Rage, NME, The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, and Rolling Stone. With multiple tracks in high rotation on triple j, they have also appeared on the station’s renowned Like a Version segment.

The duo has toured the world, selling out headline shows across France, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, the USA, New Zealand, and Australia. They have graced the stages of major Australian festivals, including Falls Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, The Plot, Day on the Lawn, Blues on Broadbeach, The Big Pineapple Festival, Lost Paradise, The Hills Are Alive, Festival of the Sun, and Party in the Paddock. Additionally, they have toured with acts such as Sticky Fingers, Lime Cordiale, Coterie, South Summit, and UK legends Steel Pulse.

Recently, they took their self-curated event, BOOTY BLOCK PARTY, national with shows in Perth, Darwin, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, and Sydney, joined by artists like Dear Sunday and Dizzy Days. They also performed at the Tracks Party Tour, Salty Hope Festival (alongside Cosmos Midnight and Rum Jungle), and Winter Wine Festival with Xavier Rudd and The Beautiful Girls.

Returning to the international circuit, the band sold out shows across New Zealand, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and the UK.

Bootleg Rascal’s self-titled fourth studio album was released on October 29. In early 2026, they toured the lead single, ‘Reasons’ nationally, with 11 of the 15 shows selling out. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of their debut album, ‘Asleep In The Machine’. To celebrate, the band will release a special deluxe version and embark on another tour across Australia and New Zealand.
